Sintra

Historic Sintra

Sintra has inspired and fascinated many romantic figures in history with its exotic and mystical atmosphere. Byron described Sintra as one of the most beautiful spots in the world, ‘a garden of Eden, a paradise’.  Hans Christian Anderson who visited Sintra in 1866 described Sintra as unrivalled, the most beautiful and lauded part of Portugal. The historic sites of Sintra are plentiful and stunning and include Sintra National Palace, Monserate Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and Convento dos Capuchos.

The location of Quinta Sao Bento is perfect for discovering Sintra (15 minutes away by car, or a lovely 35 minute walk). The wonderful white sandy beaches of Praia Grande and Praia das Macas are perfect for those who want to jump the waves, top up the tan and enjoy some fresh grilled fish.
